Sioux City FFA Chapter and Ag Students in the Sioux City Career Academy Benefit from Grant Funding
Sioux City’s first-ever FFA chapter, which was developed by students and staff in the Sioux City Career Academy ag pathway, will continue to expand efforts thanks to the FCSAmerica Working Here grant award presented by Farm Credit Services of America.
The grant awards $1,500 to help students expand efforts to make a positive difference in the Sioux City community. The FFA chapter will use funds to purchase traditional supplies that support the professional development of students and create an opportunity for project development.
The Sioux City FFA chapter enables students to gain hands-on experience that broadens agricultural knowledge and skills. The chapter’s mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.
Students in the FFA chapter are enrolled in the Sioux City Community School District’s ag pathway through the Sioux City Career Academy. Since agriculture and agriculture-related careers employ about 25 percent of the labor force in the United States, these learning experiences are preparing students for future success. Students in the program gain relevant, hands-on experience through a combination of classroom instruction, field trips, and lab experiences.
The grant donor, Farm Credit Services of America, is a customer-owned financial cooperative that provides credit and crop insurance services to farmers, ranchers, agribusinesses and rural residents in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wyoming. This organization promotes rural America with grants that benefit agriculture education.
