Color Guard

About the Program

North High School is proud to offer a color guard. The North High Color Guard is a competitive ensemble that performs alongside the North High Marching Band. Color guard is a unique activity that combines athleticism with equipment work, dance, and theatrics. To perfect the combination of these elements, color guard practices both before and after school and throughout the summer, including a two-week choreography/band camp rehearsal each August.

The Iowa High School Music Association sanctions high school band competitions and events. Through involvement in color guard, students learn valuable life skills, including teamwork, discipline, and presentation.

Interested in becoming a member of Color Guard?

Color guard is open to all students at North High. Auditions are held in April for the following school year. No previous dance or music experience is required, and audition material is taught to prospective members.

Notable Achievements

The North High Color Guard has a long tradition of excellence.

Numerous Division 1 ratings at the annual IHSMA marching band festival.
Numerous top 10 placements at regional marching competitions.
1st place – 2016 Waukee Marching Invitational.
3rd Place – 2018 Millard West Wildcat Classic.
1^st Place – 2019 Dutchmen Field Championship.

Volunteer

The North High band and color guard programs attend and host many events throughout the school year. The program’s continued success is reliant on student, parent, and community volunteers. There are many opportunities for people to volunteer for the North High band and color guard including:
